May’s Unfoldings: Health Journeys, Culinary Achievements, and City Explorations
Oh, hello there! It truly feels like a moment has passed, doesn’t it? While it hasn’t been long since our last chat – in fact, I just shared an update yesterday – there’s a certain feeling that calls for a deeper dive into everything that’s been happening. I consciously decided to skip a comprehensive recap for April, largely because, in retrospect, that month felt somewhat uneventful, perhaps even a tad mundane. But May? May has been a whirlwind of experiences, insights, and significant developments, making it the perfect time to catch you up on all the adventures and challenges I’ve navigated. From persistent health puzzles to exciting professional milestones and vibrant travel memories, this past month has certainly been anything but boring. So, grab a warm drink, get comfortable, and let’s unfold the story of my May!
Navigating Persistent Headaches: A Search for Relief
Let’s kick things off with what has arguably been the most significant and often challenging aspect of my daily life recently: the unyielding presence of headaches. I say “still” because I’ve touched upon this on Instagram a few weeks back, but for those who might have missed my stories or aren’t connected with me there, you might not be aware of the extent of this ongoing struggle. Unfortunately, yes! Most mornings begin with a headache, which typically subsides during the afternoon, only to make an unwelcome return in the evening. Some days are manageable, allowing me to push through with relative ease, but others are genuinely miserable, impacting my focus and overall well-being.
I am in close communication with my doctor, exploring every possible avenue to understand the root cause and find effective relief. Our journey so far has involved a series of trials and investigations. I’ve tried various migraine medications, hoping to quell the intensity, along with nasal sprays and saline solutions to rule out any immediate sinus involvement. Beyond conventional medicine, I’ve explored alternative therapies: regular massages (which I enjoy monthly regardless, but haven’t specifically helped with the headaches), visits to a chiropractor, and even acupuncture sessions. To ensure nothing more serious was at play, I underwent a CT scan, which, thankfully, came back negative. While reassuring in one sense, it also leaves us without a clear diagnosis, adding to the frustration.
This journey has been a testament to patience and persistence, and it’s truly taxing to deal with daily discomfort without a clear path forward. If any of you, my wonderful readers, have ever experienced or know someone who has battled sinus-like headaches without an actual sinus infection, I would be incredibly grateful to hear your stories, insights, or any remedies you might have discovered. Your experiences could offer invaluable perspectives in my ongoing quest for relief from this chronic headache saga.
A Culinary Collaboration Concludes: The Joy of Cookbook Creation
Now, shifting gears to a much lighter and incredibly exciting topic! I’m absolutely thrilled to share that Jessica and I officially wrapped up our work on her upcoming cookbook last week! The feeling of completion was, as you can imagine, incredibly satisfying and a huge relief, but it was also tinged with a little sadness. This project has been a significant part of my routine and creative outlet for some time, and I genuinely had an absolute blast collaborating on it. From brainstorming ideas to testing recipes and styling shots, every step was a rewarding experience.
The anticipation for seeing all our hard work come to fruition, with the beautiful photos finally in print, is almost palpable! While it will still be quite some time before the cookbook hits shelves and I can hold a physical copy in my hands, the excitement is already building. I am profoundly grateful for this incredible opportunity to contribute to such a meaningful project and to work alongside someone as talented as Jessica. It’s truly been an unforgettable chapter in my professional journey, and I cannot wait for you all to see the magic we created within those pages.
Washington D.C. Diaries: A Deeper Dive into the Capital’s Charm
You might have also caught glimpses of this on Instagram, but Miguel and I embarked on a wonderful, extended trip to Washington D.C. a couple of weeks ago. This wasn’t just our usual visit to see his family; we made a conscious effort to dedicate more time to actually immerse ourselves in the vibrant atmosphere of the city itself. Often, when we travel to the D.C. area, our time is primarily spent with his parents, who reside about 30 minutes outside the bustling core of the capital. This trip, however, was different, allowing us to truly explore and experience the distinct character of D.C. and its charming surroundings.
It was an absolute delight to spend quality time in Alexandria, Virginia – which, I must confess, remains my absolute favorite spot in the greater D.C. area. Its historic cobblestone streets, picturesque waterfront, quaint boutiques, and incredible culinary scene always captivate me. We also ventured into the lively U Street corridor, known for its rich history, iconic music venues, and diverse eateries. We soaked in the unique energy of both neighborhoods, discovering new corners and revisiting cherished spots. To make the trip even more special, we met up with two dear friends, rented an Airbnb to enhance our urban experience, and even caught an exciting D.C. United soccer game. The energy of the stadium, combined with the camaraderie of friends, made for an unforgettable evening. It was a truly super fun trip, packed with laughter, exploration, and reconnection, and I’m already dreaming of when we can do it all again. These moments of travel and shared experiences are what truly enrich life, and this D.C. adventure was a shining example.
Entertainment & Digital Engagements: Binge-Watching and Brand Collaborations
In terms of screen time, last month was quite eventful for our TV viewing habits! We delved into the compelling narrative of “13 Reasons Why,” a show that certainly sparked a lot of discussion and thought. Its intricate plot and sensitive themes kept us absolutely gripped from start to finish. More recently, we indulged in a fantastic binge-watching session, devouring the entire second season of “Master of None.” Aziz Ansari’s unique blend of humor, insightful social commentary, and relatable character development truly resonated with us. Did you happen to catch either of these shows? What were your thoughts on the storylines, characters, or messages they conveyed? I’d love to hear your perspectives and recommendations!
On the professional front, I’ve also embarked on an exciting new venture, lending my expertise to Rite Aid by assisting with their Instagram account! It’s been a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with a well-established brand and contribute to their digital presence. If you’re not already following them, I highly recommend checking out their feed! You’ll find a mix of health tips, product highlights, community engagement, and perhaps even some behind-the-scenes glimpses that I’ve had a hand in creating. It’s been a stimulating and rewarding experience to help shape their social media narrative.
A Holistic Approach to Wellness: Considering Dietary Changes for Headache Relief
Bringing us back to the ever-present topic of my headaches, because it’s a central part of my current journey… I’m not sure how openly I’ve discussed my views on diets and food restrictions in the past, but typically, I’m not a proponent of them. My core belief is that one should eat foods that genuinely make you feel good, nourish your body, and make your belly happy. I also firmly believe that everyone’s definition of what those “good” foods look like is uniquely personal. However, in light of the persistent and unexplained head pain, I’m seriously considering a different approach.
I’m thinking about embarking on some form of a Whole30 diet to investigate if sugar or dairy might be contributing culprits to my discomfort. While I generally steer clear of restrictive eating, this feels like a necessary step in my diagnostic quest. If I commit to it, I probably won’t eliminate carbohydrates entirely, as my gut instinct isn’t pointing to them as the problem. My current plan focuses on eliminating sugar (with a small caveat for maple syrup or honey, strictly for recipe development purposes, as my work requires testing), dairy, alcohol, and very likely caffeine as well. The idea is to reset my system and observe any changes in my headache frequency and intensity. So, if you notice a sudden influx of Whole30, paleo, or unusually healthy recipes appearing on my blog in the coming weeks, that will be the reason behind this dietary experiment! I haven’t officially started yet, but it’s a decision I’m contemplating with increasing seriousness. At this point, after exploring so many avenues without success, I’m truly open to trying anything that might offer even a glimmer of relief.
Personal Milestones: Celebrating Six Years of Togetherness
Do you and your significant other celebrate dating anniversaries? While I wouldn’t say Miguel and I have grand celebrations necessarily, we absolutely make it a point to acknowledge this special day! A couple of weeks ago, we quietly celebrated six wonderful years of dating. Reaching this milestone certainly brought a smile to my face, but it also had a humorous side effect: it made me feel super old! It’s a strange mix of joy and a touch of disbelief at how quickly time flies when you’re building a life with someone. I suppose this feeling of “getting older” alongside precious memories is one I’ll continue to experience until the end of time, and it’s a journey I wouldn’t trade for anything.
Wrapping Up May: A Look Ahead
I feel like there were even more snippets of life I wanted to share, but as is often the case when reflecting on a busy month, some details inevitably slip my mind – classic! Nevertheless, these have been the most prominent highlights and ongoing narratives of my May. It’s been a month filled with self-discovery, professional triumphs, joyful travels, and an ongoing personal health challenge that continues to teach me resilience. Thank you for joining me on this recap and for your continued support and engagement. Your comments and shared experiences truly make this space feel like a warm, supportive community. That’s all I’ve got for now, my friends. I hope your days are filled with happiness and ease. Happy weekend, everyone!
