Balancing Passions: Life Updates, Creative Projects, and Wellness Insights
Hello, wonderful readers! It feels like an age since my last proper update, and I truly apologize for the quiet spell here on the blog. Please believe me when I say you’re always on my mind! The truth is, I’ve been immersed in an incredibly busy and exciting period of freelance work. It’s been a whirlwind of fun, diverse projects, which I’m incredibly grateful for, but it has undeniably eaten into my time for dedicated recipe development and regular blog posts. While I love sharing culinary creations with you, these new opportunities have taken center stage.
I anticipate this trend will continue into the coming month, so I kindly ask for your continued patience and understanding. While you might see slightly less frequent content, I’m still aiming to pop in at least twice a week with fresh recipes and engaging stories. Your support means the world to me, and I’m committed to keeping this space vibrant, even if the frequency shifts slightly. Fingers crossed, we’ll navigate this busy period together!
August Adventures: A Personal & Professional Recap
So, what exactly has kept me so occupied during August? Let’s dive into a comprehensive recap of my personal and professional highlights. I promise to keep it engaging, despite my initial fears that it might sound mundane. Life’s little details often hold the most significant lessons and insights, and I’m eager to share them with you.
1. Prioritizing Wellness: My Journey with Physical Therapy
First up on the list, and perhaps the least glamorous but most crucial, is my ongoing journey with physical therapy for my knee. What started as a minor nuisance months ago escalated significantly at the beginning of August after a particularly intense barre class, leaving my knee completely swollen. This was a clear sign that I needed to address the issue head-on. Injury management isn’t always exciting, but it’s vital for long-term health and maintaining an active lifestyle.
Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to a regimen of at-home physical therapy exercises. The focus has been on strengthening my IT band and quadriceps, crucial muscles for knee stability, along with addressing the abnormal weakness in my ankles. It’s a challenging but rewarding process, teaching me the importance of listening to my body and investing in its recovery. This experience has truly highlighted how interconnected our physical well-being is and the dedication required to bounce back from setbacks. For anyone else dealing with similar issues, remember that consistency is key, and seeking professional guidance can make all the difference.
2. Reflecting on Whole30 and Mindful Eating
Many of you might recall my recent Whole30 journey, which I extensively documented in a detailed post. While the Whole30 program itself concluded, its ripple effects on my eating habits have been profound and lasting. I’ve found myself gravitating towards generally healthier food choices, not in a restrictive, “exclusively paleo” or “celery-as-a-snack” kind of way (let’s be real, some things are sacred!), but with a heightened sense of mindfulness.
The experience instilled a deeper awareness of what I’m consuming and how it makes me feel. This isn’t about rigid dieting; it’s about conscious choices that nourish my body without sacrificing enjoyment. Of course, this mindful approach has its delightful exceptions – the end of summer has brought with it an irresistible craving for ice cream, and I’ve been happily indulging. It’s all about finding that sustainable balance between nourishing foods and occasional treats, ensuring that healthy eating remains a joy, not a chore. The Whole30 truly served as a powerful reset button, helping me re-evaluate my relationship with food and make more informed decisions for long-term well-being.
3. Capturing Spaces: A Foray into Interior Photography
If you’re one of my lovely followers on Instagram, you’ve likely seen glimpses of my work beyond food photography. I’ve been venturing into interior photography, a creative outlet that allows me to explore a completely different aesthetic. August brought a significant milestone in this endeavor: the photos I captured for a client finally went live! You can explore the stunning spaces and my contributions here.
While the site showcases a collective effort, I’m proud to say that roughly 80% of the images featured were taken by me. It’s an incredibly rewarding experience to photograph various homes, each with its unique charm and design story. There’s a special kind of satisfaction in seeing my work beautifully presented on a professional website, rather than just existing on my computer screen. It validates the hard work and passion I pour into each shoot, and truly fuels my creative spirit. This shift has not only broadened my skills as a photographer but also opened my eyes to the intricate beauty of interior design, inspiring me in countless ways.
4. Growing My Portfolio: Expanding Interior Design Clientele
Building on the success of the recent website launch, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve started working with two additional interior design clients! This expansion of my photography services has been an incredibly exciting development. It’s a distinct departure from food photography, demanding a different set of skills and an eye for composition within structured spaces. Yet, I find immense joy in documenting beautiful homes, capturing their essence, and highlighting their unique design elements.
Each new project is a learning experience, pushing me to refine my techniques and understand the nuances of architectural and decor photography. Beyond the professional growth, these opportunities provide a constant source of inspiration for my own dream home someday. The challenge, however, is that I’m exposed to so many incredible styles and concepts that it’s making me more and more indecisive! I fall in love with something new every week, making the prospect of settling on a single aesthetic for my future abode delightfully overwhelming. This journey into interior photography has been a fantastic way to blend my artistic passion with tangible business growth, and I’m excited to see where it leads next.
5. Connecting and Innovating at Expo East
Next week, I’m heading to Expo East, and I’m bubbling with excitement! Is anyone else planning to attend? It was a somewhat last-minute decision, but I couldn’t resist the opportunity. This year, the expo is being held in Baltimore, which is a convenient four-hour drive from Pittsburgh – easy peasy! These industry events are invaluable for networking, discovering new trends, and connecting with fellow professionals. I’ll be sharing accommodations with two amazing friends and fellow bloggers, Ashley and Jess, and I’m incredibly pumped for the entire experience. From sampling innovative natural products to attending insightful sessions and fostering connections, I anticipate a week full of learning, inspiration, and fun. Such gatherings are vital for staying current in the ever-evolving world of wellness and food, and I always leave feeling energized and full of new ideas.
6. Anxiously Awaiting My Annual Puerto Rico Escape
Adding another layer of excitement to my busy schedule is my annual trip to Puerto Rico. My partner, Miguel, often teases me about how casually I mention it – as if a Caribbean getaway is just a regular Tuesday! “Oh, no big deal, just Puerto Rico.” So, my apologies if my tone comes across as nonchalant; believe me, I’m anything but! I’m genuinely thrilled at the prospect of being by a pool, which sounds almost ridiculous, but Puerto Rico is almost always the only time of year I truly “swim.” And by “swim,” I primarily mean gracefully standing in the pool with a refreshing piña colada in hand, soaking up the tropical vibes.
However, my excitement is tempered with significant concern. As I write this, Hurricane Irma is tragically impacting the island. My thoughts are deeply with everyone in its path. Beyond the obvious disappointment for my vacation, my heart aches for Puerto Rico itself. The island holds a tiny, cherished piece of my heart, and I desperately hope it weathers this storm with minimal damage. After witnessing the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey, it’s difficult not to fear the worst for communities facing such powerful natural disasters. My hope is for swift recovery, safety for its residents, and the enduring resilience of such a beautiful place.
7. Managing the Daily Grind: Progress with Headaches
Finally, for the few kind souls who have inquired, I wanted to provide a quick update on my daily headaches. Yes, they are still a part of my daily reality, BUT I’m cautiously optimistic to report that they’ve become somewhat more manageable lately. I’m not entirely sure why or how this positive shift has occurred, but I’m incredibly hopeful that this trend continues. Living with chronic pain can be draining, and even small improvements feel like monumental victories. This slight relief has made a noticeable difference in my overall energy levels and ability to focus on my demanding schedule. It’s a reminder that progress, no matter how incremental, is still progress, and I’m embracing this newfound ease with gratitude.
Looking Ahead: Gratitude and Future Content
Well, that’s my comprehensive update for August – a whirlwind of professional growth, personal wellness challenges, and moments of cherished anticipation. Between my usual workload and the exciting new interior photography projects, August was undeniably packed, and September is shaping up to be equally, if not more, busy. I am incredibly grateful for your understanding during this period of intense activity.
Thank you for sticking with me through these updates. Your readership and encouragement keep me going. Despite the busy schedule, I promise to keep the recipes coming! So, stay tuned because I will be posting a brand-new recipe tomorrow!
