Welcome, November: Embracing the Season of Gratitude and Growth

Well hello there, November! It’s truly a delight to welcome you. For many of us, the eleventh month of the year brings a unique blend of excitement and anticipation. Personally, I find myself particularly thrilled for a few key reasons. Firstly, there’s the sheer joy of Thanksgiving, a time dedicated to gratitude, family, delicious food, and cherished traditions. Secondly, November often blesses us with the continuation of that wonderful, crisp fall weather – perfect for cozy sweaters, colorful leaves, and warm drinks. And thirdly, it’s my birthday month! While I may not jump with the same youthful exuberance as I once did, it’s always a welcome excuse to gather loved ones, perhaps enjoy a fancy meal out, and simply celebrate life’s journey. So yes, I’ll gladly take any opportunity to mark another year around the sun.

As we step into this new month, it’s the perfect moment to pause and reflect on the moments, lessons, and little triumphs of October. Join me as we chat about some of the things that made last month uniquely memorable.

Reflecting on October: A Month of Travel, Productivity, and Personal Growth

The Dynamics of Solo Productivity and Travel

October proved to be an incredibly busy month for my partner, Miguel, marked by extensive travel. In fact, I believe he was only physically present in Pittsburgh for a mere six days. While I always cherish having him home, I must confess that there’s a certain unhindered productivity that settles in when I have the house to myself. Without the need to coordinate schedules, manage extra laundry, or meticulously plan elaborate dinners for two, I found myself with more focused time for personal projects and tasks. Let’s be honest, sometimes a simple, wholesome plate of roasted chickpeas makes for a perfectly acceptable, even delightful, solo dinner, right? This temporary solitude allowed me to create my own rhythms, dive deep into work, and perhaps even indulge in a few more “me” moments. Of course, the joy of his return always outweighs the brief period of enhanced solo efficiency, but it’s an interesting dynamic to navigate.

The Comfort of a Binge-Watch: Embracing “Me Time”

Speaking of productivity – or perhaps, a delightful diversion from it – I managed to make my way through EVERY. SINGLE. EPISODE. of “New Girl” last month. Miguel might suggest this is less an accomplishment and more a source of mild embarrassment, and a tiny part of me agrees. However, I’ve come to view watching TV as my essential “me” time. Each evening, an hour or so before bed, I unwind, decompress, and lose myself in a different world. “New Girl” became my latest obsession, offering the perfect blend of humor, heart, and relatable characters. If you’re searching for a lighthearted, utterly binge-worthy series to dive into, I wholeheartedly recommend it. It’s a fantastic way to disconnect from daily stresses and simply enjoy some pure, unadulterated entertainment. We all need those moments to recharge, and for me, a good sitcom does the trick.

Strategic Social Media: A Blogger’s Lifeline

In a significant step forward for my online presence, I recently made the decision to hire Jess from Hello to Fit to manage my social media platforms. I have to admit, it has been an absolute delight. In the dynamic world of blogging and digital content creation, social media stands out as perhaps the most crucial aspect for reaching an audience and building community. Yet, paradoxically, it can also be the most challenging and time-consuming element to consistently maintain. Keeping up with ever-changing algorithms, crafting engaging content, and scheduling posts across multiple platforms can feel like a full-time job in itself. Having Jess’s expertise and support in scheduling and strategizing has been incredibly helpful, freeing up valuable time and mental energy for me to focus on creating even more meaningful content for you, my readers. It’s an investment that’s already paying dividends in both efficiency and reach.

Overcoming Perfectionism: The Portfolio Journey

One of October’s more satisfying achievements was finally uploading my professional portfolio to my website. This particular project had been on my to-do list for months, a testament to my own struggles with perfectionism. I found myself endlessly tweaking, refining, and second-guessing every detail, which ultimately led to procrastination in adding the tab to my site. The internal debate of whether it was “perfect enough” became a significant roadblock. However, I eventually came to the realization that having an evolving portfolio is infinitely better than having no portfolio at all. It’s a living document, a showcase of work that will continue to grow and improve over time. The goal is progress, not instant perfection. So, it’s now live, and I’m committed to continually updating and refining it as my work evolves, embracing the journey rather than fixating on an unattainable ideal. It serves as a powerful reminder that sometimes, done is truly better than perfect.

Embracing Seasonal Sips: The Hot Beverage Debate

As the air grows cooler and autumn truly settles in, it’s that time of year when I find myself attempting to genuinely enjoy hot beverages. There’s an undeniable comfort and ritual associated with them in the fall – the warmth in your hands, the steam rising, the cozy feeling they evoke. However, I’ll be honest: hot coffee just isn’t as effortlessly enjoyable for me as an iced coffee is. There’s something about sipping on a chilled brew that I find far more refreshing and easy to drink throughout the day. Yet, I persist in my hot coffee pretense, primarily because it’s generally a more economical and accessible option than iced coffee year-round. It’s a small internal struggle, a trade-off between personal preference and practical considerations, but one I willingly make to embrace the seasonal charm.

The Quest for the Perfect Afternoon Tea

And speaking of hot beverages, this brings me to a related point: my earnest desire to genuinely like tea. I recognize the irony here, completely contradicting my previous sentiment about hot drinks, but many afternoons I find myself craving something warm and comforting to sip on. My issue is that I typically don’t fare well with more than one cup of coffee in a day – a self-imposed limit, I know, perhaps a bit “lame” as some might say, but it helps manage my caffeine intake. So, I’m increasingly thinking that tea might be the perfect solution for those moments when I’m not precisely hungry, but I just need *something* to soothe and satisfy. I’m eager to explore the world of teas, from fragrant herbals to robust blacks. If you have any specific brands or types of tea that you would wholeheartedly recommend for a budding tea enthusiast, please let me know! I’m open to suggestions and eager to find my go-to brew.

Understanding Pet Anxiety: Layla’s Story

Finally, a bit of an update on our beloved Layla, which some of you might have caught on my Instagram Stories. Our sweet dog, unfortunately, tore a hole in our couch again. To clarify, she initially created that hole last year, and a few weeks ago, she inexplicably decided to revisit it and tear out the stuffing once more. Initially, I was puzzled and a bit frustrated, unsure what might have triggered this behavior. After a conversation with our veterinarian, we both arrived at a plausible explanation: it’s very likely linked to Miguel’s recent travels. Layla has a history of anxiety, specifically a pretty significant case of separation anxiety. Interestingly, the very first time she ever chewed anything destructive was last October, also when Miguel was traveling extensively for work. It’s a peculiar pattern, isn’t it? We’re hopeful that this is indeed the root cause, and not something more concerning. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that with Miguel back home, Layla will settle down and her anxiety will ease. Pet anxiety is a real challenge for many owners, and understanding its triggers is the first step towards helping our furry companions.

Looking Forward

That wraps up my October reflections! It’s been a month of navigating personal and professional dynamics, overcoming creative hurdles, and finding moments of quiet joy. I appreciate you joining me on this journey. Stay tuned for a brand new recipe hitting the blog TOMORROW. Until then, take care! Xoxo
