Halfway Through Summer: June Adventures & Reflections
Can you believe we’re already here? It feels like just yesterday we were welcoming May, and now, somehow, we’re officially halfway through the unofficial summer season! While technically summer spans June, July, and August, I often consider May through August as the sweet spot for sun and outdoor fun. And speaking of celebrations, a very happy 4th of July to everyone! I hope your day is filled with joy, good company, and perhaps a spectacular firework display. As we pause to celebrate, it’s also the perfect moment to look back at what made June such a memorable month. Let me take you through some of the highlights and happenings that filled my days.
Exploring Columbus: A Weekend Getaway with Best Friends
June kicked off with an exhilarating weekend trip to Columbus, Ohio, to visit one of my dearest friends and her wonderful fiancé. This wasn’t our first rodeo; we had such an amazing time last summer that a repeat visit was absolutely essential. It was everything you’d want from a reunion: plenty of delicious food, laughter-filled conversations over drinks, and the undeniable highlight of snuggling with their two adorable pups. There’s truly nothing quite like reconnecting with your favorite people, especially when dogs are involved! Beyond the heartfelt conversations and cozy pet snuggles, we also immersed ourselves in the local culture by attending a Columbus Crew soccer game. The energy of the crowd, the excitement of the sport, and simply being there with friends made for an unforgettable experience. These are the moments that truly make life special – a blend of genuine connection, good food, and shared adventures.
A Journey to D.C. for a Milestone Celebration
Shortly after our Columbus trip, Miguel and I headed to Washington D.C. for a significant family event: the high school graduation of his younger brother, Emmanuel. Witnessing such a pivotal moment in his life was truly awesome and filled us with immense pride. D.C. itself offered a fantastic backdrop for our visit. We spent quality time exploring the vibrant atmosphere of the National Harbor, with its stunning waterfront views, unique shops, and array of dining options. The charm of Old Town Alexandria also captivated us, with its cobblestone streets, historic architecture, and quaint boutiques. Beyond the tourist attractions, it was a fantastic opportunity to catch up with many of Miguel’s friends, making the entire trip a perfect blend of family celebration, sightseeing, and cherished social interactions. Every moment, from the formal ceremony to the casual strolls, was a testament to the strong bonds of family and friendship that enrich our lives.
Conquering the Great Outdoors: My Dad’s Yard Work Rescue Mission
Towards the beginning of the month, I received a visit from my amazing dad, who journeyed up from Ohio with a very specific, and much appreciated, mission: to help me with yard work. I must confess, yard work is not my forte; in fact, I absolutely loathe it. The thought of gardening (though I secretly harbor dreams of a beautiful garden someday!), weeding, or mowing fills me with dread. My preference firmly lies with indoor chores, which sometimes makes me wonder if I’m an anomaly. Regardless of my personal preferences, my dad’s assistance was a godsend. He tirelessly helped me tackle a massive overgrowth of weeds that had taken over our yard. The transformation was incredible; what was once an unruly mess now looks significantly cleaner and more presentable. It’s truly amazing what a fresh pair of hands and a determined spirit can accomplish, and I am endlessly grateful for his unwavering support and help, especially with tasks that I find particularly challenging.
Screen Time & Storylines: My Latest TV Series Obsessions
When it comes to unwinding, nothing beats a good TV series, and June was no exception to my viewing habits. We’re still deeply engrossed in “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and the weekly wait for new episodes is absolutely agonizing! The suspense, the intricate plot, and the powerful performances keep us on the edge of our seats, making the anticipation almost unbearable. We also recently finished “The Americans,” and it was nothing short of brilliant. The Cold War espionage thriller truly captivated us from start to finish with its complex characters and gripping storyline. Another standout from our recent watches was “The Looming Tower.” If you happen to have a spare weekend and access to Hulu, I cannot recommend this mini-series enough. Spanning just 8 to 10 episodes, it offers a profoundly insightful and often harrowing glimpse into the events leading up to 9/11. It’s a powerful watch that not only entertains but also educates, providing a crucial understanding of a pivotal moment in history. These shows have offered a fantastic escape and much-needed entertainment during our evenings.
Fitness Journey Update: Completing Beverly’s 30 Days to Fit Plan
My personal fitness journey saw a significant milestone in June: I successfully completed Beverly’s “30 Days to Fit” plan, and I absolutely loved it! While I typically gravitate towards the camaraderie and motivation of group fitness classes, I’ve found that having a structured plan is incredibly beneficial when I’m working out at the gym solo. Beverly’s meticulously typed-out workouts, conveniently stored in my phone’s notepad, provided the guidance and direction I needed to stay focused and consistent. The clarity and organization of the plan made it easy to follow, eliminating the guesswork and allowing me to maximize my gym time. I’m so pleased with the results and the overall experience that I’m seriously considering embarking on the entire plan once more. This time, I aim to complete it straight through, as I had to take an unplanned two-week break last month due to a vacation. It’s truly empowering to find a fitness routine that works for you, and Beverly’s plan has proven to be an invaluable tool in my health and wellness arsenal.
A New Addition to the Household: Welcoming a Third Roommate
Exciting news on the home front! Miguel and I have officially acquired a third roommate. No, it’s not another furry friend, but one of my very best friends will be living with us for the entire upcoming month, and I am absolutely thrilled about it. She lives a few hours away but secured a fantastic summer job opportunity right here in Pittsburgh. Our previously finished attic, which was already earmarked to become our guest bedroom, has now officially transformed into her cozy summer abode. Woohoo! Our friendship dates back to our freshman year of college, and she was even a cherished member of my wedding party. Although she’s only been here for a couple of weeks so far, her presence has already brought so much joy and laughter into our home. It’s been an absolute blast having her around, and I’m eagerly looking forward to the adventures, late-night chats, and shared memories we’ll undoubtedly create throughout the rest of her stay. It truly feels like a mini-reunion every day!
Behind the Lens: A Fun Photo Shoot at Madeleine George Boutique
June also brought a fun and creative opportunity my way: a fantastic little photo shoot at a brand new clothing store called Madeleine George Boutique in the charming Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh. What makes this experience even more special is that the boutique is owned by two incredible women who also happen to be clients at the barre studio where I teach. It truly is a small, connected world here in Pittsburgh, highlighting the wonderful community spirit of our city. I had the pleasure of shooting a series of photos for their new website, capturing the essence and style of their unique offerings. The atmosphere was vibrant, the clothes were beautiful, and the entire experience was incredibly rewarding. I’m eagerly anticipating the launch of their new site and can’t wait to see the photos come to life online, helping to showcase their passion and their beautiful new venture to a wider audience. Supporting local businesses, especially those run by such inspiring individuals, is always a privilege.
And that, my friends, pretty much sums up my busy and delightful month of June! Looking ahead, July promises to be another whirlwind of activity. While there are moments I might want to lament the sheer craziness of it all, these are precisely the months I eagerly anticipate throughout the long year. Because let’s be honest, winter has a tendency to just draaaaag on and on, doesn’t it? So, here’s to embracing every moment of this vibrant, energetic, and joyous season. Happy, happy summer to all my amazing friends!
